Hawksland Associates has recently completed a Supply Chain Cost Reduction assignment for a major 1st-tier aerostructures company. An aerostructures design, manufacturing and integration client wished to investigate what saving opportunities could be achieved across all 'bought-in' commodities from its supply chain. Hawksland Associates were appointed to carry-out a detailed analysis, make savings recommendations and identify supply chain consolidation opportunities.

Led by Managing Director, Gary Windas and supported by Paul Elliott, Martin Ellis and Bob Griffiths - Hawksland Associates identified savings within the key commodity areas of metal and composite materials, machining, sheet metal fabrication, composite components, fasteners and sub-assemblies. Following Hawksland's proven 'SCOS' methodology and detailed knowledge about aerospace supply chains,  Hawksland identified over $32m in savings - $16m of which would be annualised. In the completion of its first phase diagnostic and strategy recommendations, Hawksland also handed over to the client a 'Project Charter' implementation roadmap for each savings opportunity.

The client requested Hawksland to support the achievement of the indentified supply chain savings. Working closely with the client Procurement team, several preparatory workshops were held for each saving opportunity including: should cost estimating, market commodity and currency pricing analysis, negotiation preparations and low cost alternative market quoting. At the time of completing its engagement, Hawksland had supported the client achieve $12.5m of annualised savings, and had left the client team fully capable of completing the achievement of the remaining identified savings on their own.
